My Unforgettable Day
I was so impressed with Sully ditching the A 230 on the Hudson river, that I went directly to the Airbus page looking for more specs & data. One headline there caught my eye inmediatly:
My girlfriend of those days, had one appointment too many for Cuernavaca Trading Co, her Import/Export bussines. A new Australian customer was arriving from Sidney I believe (not shure), to import over there the best arts & crafts from México. I had to pick her up at the Airport, escort her on a tour of the best galleries down town, and enjoy some meals sampling a few wines, as the 'Welcome to México hospitality' dictates. -"Her name is Nancy"- Vera said, matter of factly.
The twinkle on Nancy's eye made my hart realize "this is a Friend" (not a customer!), the very moment we met. I introduced myself and apologized for Vera's absence. -"Just call me Nancy"- were her very first words.
My transport was a VW Safari (the VW Thing: my Bula Matari), with an open top: Nancy loved it! After a small drive we were in the Zona Rosa (Pink Zone), the best district for Gallery's and Restaurants on those days. Nancy said she was starving and eager to sample Mexican food. With wine, of course. Then I asked Nancy -"What do you do for a living, over there in Australia, Nancy?"- and she made me feel extasis: as all hangar flying does to us people that love the sky. What a life! The air race, the commercial flights, the Sea Captain stealing her hart...
-"I am shure you stole his hart as well, Nancy"-
-"Oh yes, Life was good to us"- she answered with a distant look... Once this conversation started...there was no way I would end it! Nancy encouraged me to continue my Skydive training.
Nancy atracted the best in people. And she was a number...on one of the top Gallery's, the owner had a prived party. As soon as he met us (I mean, met Nancy!) we were invited. The best of Mezcal was present to be sampled, one of those non commercial productions: now, if you believe Tequila is dangerous, wait until you taste Mezcal! Made in wooden distillers, it's the only prehispanic brew, said to be "slightly alucigenous"...nothing slight about Mezcal!
Now, don't read me wrong: we never got drunk! Nancy was allways a Lady before anything else and we were 7 people drinking one Mexcal bottle: with more mexican snacks than we could eat! The girl friend of that Gallery's owner, was a famous mexican classic dancer in Bellas Artes. Then entered this scene another gray haired gentlemen, looking like he owned Kimberley-Clark and who said to Nancy:
-"I believe we had met before"- after introducing himself. -"Oh, don't you remeber that crayze night?"- Nancy answered with that twinkle on her eye, one hand covering her face, while she flapped her eyelids, pretending to be blushing...
That joke broke all ice! The party really started then, and we left for Cuernavaca late in the evening. Nancy had every Gallery owner, wanting to export to Australia all type of mexican crafts! She did bussines in such a cool maner...
...Nancy, you are in my hart: the best aviators, are now flying over that Other Shore!
